Measure the everyday.

Before choosing a planter, open the balcony door, pull out a chair, and walk through the space. Mark the area that is genuinely free. A garden works best when it makes the space easier to enjoy.

Watch the light.

Observe direct sunlight across a few days. A bright-looking balcony is not always a sunny one. Use hours of direct sun, local climate and exposure to choose plants rather than appearance alone.

Begin with fewer plants.

Choose a small number of plants with compatible care needs. Keep mint in its own container, and ask a local nursery which varieties suit your climate and the light you measured.

Keep the practical things visible.

Allow access for watering and cleaning. Account for the full weight of wet growing medium and water, and check building requirements before placing heavy pots or tall structures.

Illustrations show product concepts. For a real garden, adapt planting and installation to local conditions.
